Our client, a leading Petro-Chemical Manufacturer in Durban, is looking for an Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager

Must Have:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Safety/ Risk or Post Graduate Diploma in Risk & Governance
• Registered with SAIOSH Institute of Risk Management
• 10 years relevant experience in the implementation and control of HSSE management systems of which 7 years are at a senior management level
• Petro-Chem and or Chemicals type experience
• Previous experience in the implementation of safety and environmental standards, in line with requirements of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001:2007
• Experience in reporting to senior management/ board on the HSSE performance of the organisation
• Experience in integrated standards system implementation, certified by a recognised body (SABS)
• Knowledge of Production Process Systems
• Trained in advanced investigation techniques
• Knowledge of HSSE Legislation and implementation in a manufacturing site
• High degree of problem solving, decision making, internal consultation and work programme flexibility in order to maintain the HSSE management system
• Innovative and imaginative rather than conventional thinking is necessary for implementing continual improvements in terms of HSSE
• Excellent people-management, communication and presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to persuade others to adopt new approaches to the business
• A hands-on approach with good management and co-ordination capabilities is essential

• To manage the overall risk function (Health, Safety, Security and Environmental) thereby minimizing risk to Company and ensuring Company’s compliance to Health, Safety and Environmental rules, regulations and legislation at a provincial and national level
• Develop HSSE Strategy to ensure that site achieves goal zero in line with agreed shareholder framework
• Develop an operational risk framework to ensure all risks are reported on a quarterly basis and have the necessary mitigatory plans in place

• To prepare and control the annual HSSE operating budget thereby ensuring that the site remains in compliance to all permits and applicable legislation

• Chair monthly HSSE Shareholder Forum meetings
• Provide professional HSSE advice and guidance to the Company (including associated legislation)
• To communicate with neighbouring companies and other interested and affected parties on health safety and environmental matters
• Liaising with external service providers and government agencies (TNPA)
• To ensure the clinic is in compliance to the medical surveillance programme

• Responsible for the overall management of business risk and compliance on site, reporting to the A&R committee and Board of directors
• Develop HSSE Business Plan and strategy to support business needs
• Ensure compliance with all environmental and safety requirements as stipulated by ISO14001 and applicable legislation
• Monitor & report on HSSE performance to shareholders, BLT and the Operation’s Forum
• Ensure that preventative maintenance inspection programmes are in place for all safety critical inspections
• To ensure that the requirements of the OHS Act 85 of 1993 is implemented and maintained
• To implement safety standards and upgrade the existing standards in accordance with changing legislation
• Compiling information for the monthly and annual performance review including the annual management review
• Implement the contractor management process (PTW) to ensure all risks by third party contractors are mitigated and controlled throughout the organisation

• Provide advice in terms of HSSE to BLT, tender board and the overall organisation
• Assist senior & line management in setting objectives & targets
• Ensure that all HSSE training is executed to meet organisational and legal requirements
• Appointment as the management representative for HSSE
• To market and promote organisational values to ultimately adopt a safety culture

• Participate in regular site and activities audits thereby ensuring compliance to HSSE and Quality (IATF) standards, procedures and management system elements
• Form part of an annual management review of Company HSSE-MS and Quality –MS and their performance elements
• Overall management of clinic and canteen on site to ensure compliance to health and medical surveillance programme
• Conducting HSE Risk assessments on existing & new processes and develop action plans to mitigate these risks
• Investigating serious incidents and claims and reporting to shareholders and the relevant authorities, in order to ensure compliance with requirements
• To ensure internal and external audits are executed in terms of environmental, safety and health in all areas of the plant to ensure compliance

Salary: R 70K – R 120K / Month negotiable
